Gentle habits that changed how I feel every Monday

Why I Started Doing a Sunday Reset

For the longest time, my Sundays looked like this: wake up late, scroll endlessly, feel guilty about not doing enough, and then spend the evening dreading Monday. It wasn’t restful or productive — just… stuck.

That slow Sunday burnout feeling? It used to hit me hard.

So a few months ago, I tried something different. Nothing too intense — just a few small habits to help me reset mentally, emotionally, and physically. And slowly, it began to shift how I felt throughout the week.

Here’s the routine that changed everything.

🌤️ Step 1: A Slow, Tech-Free Morning

Instead of grabbing my phone the moment I wake up, I now give myself 30 minutes of no screens. I drink water, stretch a little, maybe sit by the window. This tiny act feels like reclaiming my brain.

Why it helps: Starting your Sunday slow (and not reactive) sets the tone for a more grounded day.

💡 Tip: Keep your phone on airplane mode until you’ve moved your body or brushed your teeth.

🧹 Step 2: Clean One “Stress Point” at Home

Instead of doing a full-blown cleaning spree (which can be draining), I pick one small but noticeable area: the kitchen counter, my work desk, or the entryway.

A tidy space = clearer mind.

🧺 Pro Tip: Use music or a podcast to make it more enjoyable. I usually put on something like “On Purpose with Jay Shetty.”

📝 Step 3: Reflect & Reset (The 10-Minute Journal Trick)

I sit with my journal and write 3 things:

  1. What felt heavy last week?

  2. What do I want to feel more of this week?

  3. One small habit I’ll try.

It’s not about goals — it’s about emotional honesty.

🍵 Step 4: Nourish Without Complicating

I’ve stopped chasing “perfect meals” on Sundays. Now, I prep something simple and wholesome — like khichdi with ghee, or a bowl of fruit and curd with honey.

One calm meal, made with intention, feels better than ordering out.

🫶 Comfort food = comfort mind.

📅 Step 5: Look at the Week (But Kindly)

This part used to make me anxious. Now, I approach it like this:

  • I open my calendar

  • I block out time for breaks, not just meetings

  • I add one “joy point” midweek (a walk, call with a friend, etc.)

💤 Bonus Step: Early Bedtime Without Guilt

Sundays are for winding down, not cramming in 3 more episodes. I light a candle, play some instrumental music, and try to sleep by 10:30 PM.

Trust me, Monday morning you will thank Sunday-night you.

🌱 Final Thoughts: This Isn’t a Productivity Hack

This isn’t about doing more — it’s about feeling better.

A Sunday reset routine isn’t a checklist to impress anyone. It’s just a way to create a little mental space… so you don’t start your week in survival mode.

If you’ve been feeling scattered, try just one step from this list. Let it become a gentle habit. Your future self will feel it — in your mood, your sleep, your peace.

💬 What’s Your Sunday Ritual?

Do you already do something similar? Or are you just getting started with this kind of reset?

And if you found this post helpful, maybe share it with a friend who also dreads Mondays. We’re all figuring it out.

Until next time,
